Packeteer booting in safe mode

Problem: Packet shaper goes to safe mode.
Reason: On one of the following cases


If corrupted OS image loaded or

If corrupted config file loaded.

Solution: 1. Revert to backup image or load new image ; Solution:2. Delete config file and load backup config

Option A: Try loading the backup image. The procedure to load backup image is as follows
Console to the device. Reset the unit and do ctrl+b while it is booting.

Packetshaper# image revert

The above command revert image to the backup image. If this is

Successfully and if you could see the “ver” output as follows


PacketShaper# ver

If option A did not worked for you go to Solution 2

Option B: Load new image the procedure is as follows

Open ftp session: At your workstation’s command line (e.g., MS-DOS prompt), go to the directory
where the image file stored.
Step1 :ftp
Step2 :User :admin
Step3 :Password :Packeteer touch password
Step4 :ftp> bin
Step5 :ftp> hash
Step6 :ftp> cd 9.258/
Step7 :ftp> put latest8.zoo
Step8 :ftp> bye

Now open telnet session:

Step1 :telnet
Step2 :Password :Packeteer touch password
Step3 :Packetshaper# cd 9.258/
Step4 :Packetshaper# image load latest8.zoo
Step5 :Packetshaper# Please confirm if you want to proceed(YES)

If option B also not worked for you please try Solution 3

Option C: Restore Packet shaper to Factory default.

Connect using console and do the following
Take backup of your existing configuration (Please find steps in How
to take Packeteer configuration backup blog)
Step1: PacketShaper# setup reset all
This will load packet shaper to factory default IP of
207.78.98.254. Using this IP you need to load new image
Follow the procedure mentioned in Solution 2 to load NEW IMAGE.

Step2: PacketShaper# me reset
Step3: load config.cmd


Solution 2:

Connect using console and do the following
PacketShaper# cd 9.256/cfg
PacketShaper# delete config.ldi
PacketShaper# reset

Then load configuration to the unit.
